Mid cut helmets, also known as “gunfighter cut helmets”, are similar to the standard ACH helmets except they have the lower half of the ear skirt cut out as a compromise to save weight while retaining some ballistic protection. These helmets have largely been superseded (as of 2026) by high cut helmets which have all the ear protection cut away.
