As of May 2025, the exact origin of this camouflage pattern is unknown. The buttons as well as Denison Smock like cut indicates these smocks were for a country with links to the British Empire. At least one example of a smock in this DPM-like brushstroke pattern has been found in a British SAS grouping with an even earlier version which has a Denison-like brushstroke pattern [1][2]. A different smock with this earlier pattern was found with a Indian tailor’s tag [3].
