The name “Lebanese Blue” comes from the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) usage of this pattern in Lebanon. Items in this pattern were also used by insurgents in Southern Africa. The South African military also copied this camouflage pattern to make items for the Recces (Special Forces) during the Border War.

Palestinian Liberation Organization:

This camouflage pattern is associated with the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Fatah guerillas, led by Yasser Arafat [5]. It is impossible to confirm that the camouflage print shown in the black and white photos have the same color as the example on this page, but the shapes are very similar and the colors tend to be darker, although the shirts tend to have pocket flaps. It is possible that the colors in the PLO photos above could be closer to the other Egyptian Lizard pattern.

South West Africa People’s Organization (Namibia):

From [6].

Eastern Bloc aligned insurgents in Southern Africa also used items in this camouflage pattern. The picture above is Cde. Sam Nujoma, the founder of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) and later the first president of Namibia after independence [7]. SWAPO’s armed wing was the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN)[8].
